Talk about sick. Two paramedics in Florida are out of a job after having a “selfie war” with incapacitated patients that they were transporting. This is just all kinds of wrong.
Kayla Renee Dubois, 24, was arrested and charged with two felonies, two counts of interception and disclosure of oral communications. Her coworker, Christopher Wimmer, 33, turned himself in later the same day. He is facing seven felonies and a misdemeanor battery charge.
Reportedly, the selfie pair used their cell phones to take pics and videos with patients inside the ambulance. Patients were intubated, sedated and, for the most part, unconscious. Many of the pictures were clearly taken with the intention to humiliate the patients.
The “selfie war” included 41 patients, of which only three agreed to take part in, which still seems wrong. Many of the pictures were shared with other EMS and non-EMS personnel.
The two are both due in court later in the summer. Dubois has since been fired and Wimmer resigned soon after.
